"Rabbi, who
sinned, this
man or his parents, that
he was born blind." There
is only one time blindness was healed in the Old Testament. In II
kings 6, Syrian soldiers were temporarily blinded and regained their
sight.
The coming Messiah would open the eyes of the blind and the ears of
the deaf. (Isaiah 29:18, 35:5 and 42:7)
It was common for Jews to believe sin was the cause
of blindness.
"'Neither this
man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this happened so that
the work of God might be displayed in his life.'"
Jesus spit on the ground, made
mud and put in on the man's eyes.
"'Go,'
he told him, 'wash in the Pool of Siloam' (this word means Sent). So
the man went and washed, and came home seeing."
The
Light of the
World had
given light to the blind man!
